The Dartmouth Association of Latino Alumni (DALA) has received formal recognition as an affiliated group of Dartmouth College by the Office of Alumni Relations. The recommendation was made by the office's Committee on Alumni Diversity.

"This is a big achievement and the entire membership deserves credit for this accomplishment," said Natalie Garza '98, president of DALA. "As a group, our priorities include increasing scholarship funding for Latino students, mentoring and recruiting Latino students for Dartmouth, expanding the number of regional events to reconnect our alumni with each other and with the College, and fostering stronger ties between undergraduates and alumni."

DALA is currently planning regional events in New York City, San Antonio, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, as well as several on-campus events and support for the upcoming New England Latino Leadership Conference, which will be held at Dartmouth in April.

Affiliated groups are sub-groups of the Dartmouth Association of Alumni. They are made up of 100 or more members, and share a common bond as self-identified, historically underrepresented alumni.

"Affiliated groups help strengthen the connections our alumni make with each other and the College," said Vice President for Alumni Relations David Spalding '76. "They promote leadership, volunteerism, and participation, and they help create opportunities for our students. We're very proud to welcome DALA as an official affiliated alumni group of Dartmouth College."

The addition of DALA raises the number of officially recognized Dartmouth College affiliated groups to five. These include the Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association (BADA); Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni/ae Association (D-GALA); Dartmouth Asian-Pacific American Alumni Association (DAPAAA); and Native American Alumni Association of Dartmouth (NAAAD).
