Dartmouth Commencement 2003

Honorary degree citation to Frederick B. Whittemore '53 (Doctor of Laws)
Frederick B. Whittemore '53

When President John Sloan Dickey presented your father with an honorary Dartmouth degree in 1948, he called him "a good New Englander" - one whose accomplishments in private life are balanced by a commitment to the public good. We here affirm that the apple has not fallen far from the tree.

As a partner and managing director at Morgan Stanley you have literally roamed the girdled earth - but never forgetting your New Hampshire roots. The University of New Hampshire, Kimball Union Academy, and Dartmouth College and its Tuck School are among the Granite State beneficiaries of your generosity, your time and energy, your good advice.

Generations of Whittemores have marched across Dartmouth's commencement stage to receive a degree. No President, however, has taken greater pleasure in bestowing that recognition than I now take from this moment. Dartmouth is honored to present to you the degree Doctor of Laws.
