Posted 05/24/02 Almost 70 new animated films by 40 students will be shown at the eighth Annual Dartmouth Animation Festival on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 and 8:30 p.m. in the Loew Theater. Students employed a variety of mediums and techniques in creating the films, including drawings, collage, claymation, computer animation, and even colored grains of sugar. This year's festival features Ash Sunday, a Senior Fellowship project by Corrie Francis '01 that won First Prize in Student Animation at the New York Animation Society's Awards and has been nominated for this year's Student Academy Award in Animation. In addition, there will be a mid-show performance of "Fancing" by dancer Stephanie Jean-Jacques '05 and fencer Nelson Rosa '05. Film festivals in the United States and abroad have screened animated films by Dartmouth students. These films have received honors and recognition, including the Student Academy Award and other prizes. Student films have also been aired on the Bravo and Cartoon Network cable channels. Admission to Wednesday's screenings is free and open to the public. |
