Dartmouth Medical School Doctors named among America's best

Posted 03/12/02

Four doctors from the Dartmouth Medical School have been selected by their peers as top in their fields, according to this month's edition of Ladies' Home Journal.

In the April 2002 issue titled "The Best Doctors for Women - Coast to Coast," Ladies' Home Journal publishes the results of an independent survey aimed at identifying "highly skilled, exceptional doctors" in these areas related to women's health: obstetrics and gynecology; gynecological oncology; and breast cancer. Of the eight doctors on the list from Northern New England, four are from DHMC; two from Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., and two are from Maine Medical Center in Portland, Me.

The DMS doctors, who all practice at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, are:

  • Emily R. Baker, MD, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and of radiology
  • John L. Currie, MD, professor of obstetrics and gynecology
  • E. Dale Collins, MD, associate professor of surgery and of community and family medicine
  • John E. Sutton, MD, professor of surgery

The Ladies' Home Journal list was compiled by Castle Connolly and a team of researchers and physicians who used mail, telephone and electronic surveys to identify "those physicians most highly regarded by their peers." The methodology used in selecting the doctors is outlined at the Castle Connolly website.

"Clip this and save," recommends the magazine. "Their list could be your lifesaver."
