Posted 09/21/01 The Hanover Inn at Dartmouth College plans a day of fund-raising on October 2 to benefit the families of uniform services heroes and food service workers who lost their lives in the tragedies of September 11 at the World Trade Center in New York City. On Tuesday, October 2, the restaurants of the Hanover Inn will open their doors to guests for the entire day at no charge, in return for donations to the Twin Towers Fund and the Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund. The community is invited to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the Daniel Webster Room or lunch or dinner in Zins winebistro. Reservations are required. New York Mayor Rudolf Giuliani has established the Twin Tower Fund to ensure that the generous outpouring of support for families of uniform services personnel affected by the disaster is coordinated, responsive, responsible, and accountable. The Fund will assist, recognize, and support the families of the New York City Fire Department and its Emergency Medical Service Command, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York State Office of Court Administration and other government personnel who lost their lives. All the food service and support staff present in Windows on the World, the renowned restaurant that was located at the top of the World Trade Center, were killed in the attack. The Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund has been established by a group of restaurateurs from around the country to help support the families of those who died, and set up a scholarship fund for their children. "It gives all of us at the Inn a chance to do something to help the innocent victims and the heroes who died saving lives," said Hanover Inn General Manager Matt Marshall. "As hospitality providers, we are deeply sympathetic to the families of the Windows on the World staff who were lost. We share with the rest of the world our thanks to and respect for the uniform services personnel who did so much to rescue survivors, including giving their own lives." Reservations are required for this fund-raising event, and may be made by calling the Hanover Inn at (603) 643-4300. Breakfast is served in the Daniel Webster Room, the Inn's elegant main dining room, from 7:00 - 10:30 A.M. Lunch there is served from 11:30 A.M - 2:00 P.M., and dinner service is from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Lunch is offered from 11:30A.M. until 2:00 P.M. in Zins, a sophisticated contemporary bistro; dinner in Zins is served from 5:30 until 10:00 P.M. There will be no charge for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (alcoholic beverages not included). Guests are invited to donate as they see fit to the two above-mentioned charitable funds supporting families of the September 11 disaster victims. Hanover Inn staff will collect donations and forward them to the charities. |
