Posted 06/25/01 Dartmouth faculty will offer a concert featuring the last published work of noted folk and classical music composer Ruth Crawford Seeger: a songbook for children titled Let's Build A Railroad, Saturday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lebanon, N.H., Public Library. Larry Polansky, Chair of the Dartmouth Music Department, will play guitar, mandolin, mandocello and dobro and will be joined by Mary Ann Haagen (Visiting Scholar, Dartmouth Department of Music) on voice, dulcimer and percussion, and Jody Diamond (Associate Visiting Professor, Dartmouth Department of Music and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) on voice, banjo and percussion. Ruth Crawford Seeger, the step-mother of folk legend Pete Seeger and mother of Mike and Peggy Seeger, was born 100 years ago this year and numerous events are planned to honor her centenary in the coming months. Polansky's work with Seeger has included his famous piano composition Lonesome Road [The Crawford Variations] and also the editing of an unpublished manuscript to be released this fall.
