Canada's Tafelmusik offers free lecture/demonstration of early classical music

Posted 01/24/01

Dartmouth community members are invited to attend a free lecture and demonstration by Tafelmusik, Canada's renowned group of baroque soloists, at 4:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Spaulding Auditorium.

Tafelmusik performs baroque and early classical music exactly as the composers intended. Using original scores and period instruments, the group recreates the sounds of the 17th and 18th centuries. Their demonstration will include examples of the baroque violin, viola, cello, bass and harpsichord. The group will focus on how baroque instruments and performance practices differ from their modern counterparts.

This lecture and demonstration is offered in conjunction with the Tafelmusik Baroque soloists performance scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, also in Spaulding Auditorium.

Dartmouth has television (satellite uplink) and radio (ISDN) studios available for domestic and international live and taped interviews. For more information, call 603-646-3661 or see our Radio, Television capability webpage.
