Posted 10/28/00 "Shooting the moon" paid off for Isaac Berniker '03, as he faced the best players of the card game hearts at a national tournament sponsored by a playing card company. The risky strategy twice propelled him toward his eventual third-place finish at the Bicycle Collegiate Card Tournament in Orlando, Fla. Representing Dartmouth, Berniker brought home a $5,000 donation to the college's general scholarship fund. Having beaten out about 25 other Dartmouth students at a preliminary competition on campus, Berniker earned an all-expense-paid trip to the Florida tournament to face the champs from other colleges. This year marked Dartmouth's first involvement in the national tournament. |
