Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble performs Coltrane tunes in fall concert

Posted 11/01/00

The award-winning student group, The Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, will perform its fall term concert this Saturday.

Trombonist Don Glasgo leads a program of traditional jazz, focusing on the African American idiom. Tim Green of New Orleans will join the ensemble on the saxophone, playing tunes by John Coltrane.

The students, mostly non-music majors, regularly learn from and perform with great jazz artists, like Marshall Allen, Joseph Bowie, Conrad Herwig and Oliver Lake.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 in Spaulding Auditorium. Reserved seats, $14, Dartmouth students $3. For information, call 646-2422.
