Christine Chevalier appointed Associate Vice President for Human Resources

Posted 05/12/00

Christine M. Chevalier, a human resources professional with more than 20 years experience in the field, has been appointed Dartmouth's first Associate Vice President for Human Resources. She has been a member of the staff of the Dartmouth Office of Human Resources since 1996, and has been Acting Director of the office since September 1999.

Replacing the position of Director of Human Resources with the new Associate Vice President position "is symbolic of the importance Dartmouth attaches to this vital area of management," said Edwin Johnson, Dartmouth Vice President for Finance (and Treasurer of the College). "Christine leads a talented staff dedicated to support of the 'living endowment' of the College -- our faculty and staff -- who year after year define in their daily work what the institution is all about.

"During the past eight months, Christine has done an extraordinary job, working with her staff to reaffirm the vital role Human Resources must play at Dartmouth," Johnson added. "That the department has managed to renew connections with diverse groups around campus and begin important new projects in this short time is testimony to Christine's leadership."

Chevalier said, "It is an honor and a privilege to have been chosen as the new Associate Vice President for Human Resources for Dartmouth College. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and to the opportunity of continuing to serve the wonderful faculty and staff of the College in my new role. I believe that by working together through the spirit of collaboration that already exists, we can fulfill Dartmouth's goal of further developing our office as a true resource center."

Before joining the Dartmouth staff, Chevalier worked in human resources at Harvard University as Associate Director for Flexible Benefits from 1985-96; and at the Masschusetts Institute of Technology, helping administer the M.I.T. Health Plan from 1977-80. She also worked for the Intercollegiate Case Bibliography at Harvard from 1976-77 and for the Travelers Insurance Company (in the Accident and Health Department) from 1973-76. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Boston University.

Dartmouth has television (satellite uplink) and radio (ISDN) studios available for domestic and international live and taped interviews. For more information, call 603-646-3661 or see our Radio, Television capability webpage.
