Posted 10/15/99 Dartmouth Night, a tradition for over a century, will be the centerpiece of activity for the College's homecoming weekend of October 22-23. A parade through the streets of Hanover and around the Dartmouth Green begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 from Lebanon Street. Marching bands from Dartmouth and four Upper Valley high schools will take part in the parade, which will also include cars and floats sponsored by some of the more than 40 alumni classes returning for the weekend. The parade ends at 8 p.m. in front of Dartmouth Hall, where the Dartmouth Glee Club and the Dartmouth Marching Band will perform. Speakers will include Dartmouth President James Wright; Alumni Council President Kelley Fead '78; the women's volleyball co-captain, Janna Merryfield '00; and the football quad-captain, Reggie Belhomme '00. The master of ceremonies will be Director of Alumni Relations Nelson Armstrong '71. The Dartmouth Night bonfire, a Dartmouth tradition begun in the 1920s, will be lit around 8:45 p.m. The football game against Cornell begins at Memorial Field at noon on Saturday. Other intercollegiate athletic events that day include a field hockey game against Cornell at Scully-Fahey Field at 1 p.m. and a women's volleyball game against Harvard at the Leede Arena at 4 p.m. Athletic events on Sunday include a women's soccer game against Cornell at noon at Chase Field and a men's soccer game against Cornell at 2:30 p.m, also at Chase Field.
