Larry H. Litten appointed Director of Institutional Research at Dartmouth

Posted 05/20/99

Karl Furstenberg, Dartmouth's Associate Provost as well as Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, has appointed Larry H. Litten to be Director of Institutional Research at Dartmouth, effective August 1.

Litten is presently Associate Director of the Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE) in Cambridge, Mass., where he has worked since 1979. He also serves as COFHE's Director of Research.

In his new capacity, Litten will conduct research studies on a wide range of institutional and educational subjects designed to provide relevant information and projections to senior officers of the College. The principal focus of the position is to provide insights and data that support decision-making on major issues and long-range planning.

"We are delighted that Larry Litten will join the administration at Dartmouth," said Furstenberg. "Larry's experience and knowledge will be invaluable in gaining a deeper insight into important education issues and planning for the future at Dartmouth."

A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (B.A.) and the University of Chicago (Ph.D.), Litten began his career as a Research Assistant at Teachers College of Columbia University, then went on to positions at the University of Chicago (Research Associate at the Comparative Education Center, then Research Assistant at the National Opinion Research Center and later Associate Study Director at the National Opinion Research Center); at Carleton College (Coordinator of Institutional Research and Assistant Professor of Education); and at The College Board (Senior Study Director, the New Possibilities Project, during a leave from COFHE).

Dartmouth has television (satellite uplink) and radio (ISDN) studios available for domestic and international live and taped interviews. For more information, call 603-646-3661 or see our Radio, Television capability webpage.
