Dartmouth Native students hold 26th annual Pow-Wow

The student group Native Americans at Dartmouth will hold the college's 26th annual Native American pow-wow Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10. The event will be held on the Dartmouth Green or, in case of rain, Dartmouth's Thompson Arena. The event is free and open to the public.

Each day's events begins with a grand entry at noon. The master of ceremonies is Buddy Gwin, a Mandan/Hidatsa from Mandaree, N.D., and coordinator of the First Nations Fellowship Program at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vt. The host drum is the Ledyard, Conn.-based group, Mystic River. Head man dancer is Marvin Burnette, a Rosebud Sioux from Nashua, N.H., and head lady dancer is Desiree Kitcheyan, a Ho-Chunk from Milford, Conn. In addition to dance contests through the day, the event will include vendors of Native foods and arts and crafts.
