2010 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, August 17 & 18
    The Dartmouth Flag will be lowered today and tomorrow for Ann Smolowe, Senior Managing Director of Leadership Giving.
  • Wednesday, August 11
    The Dartmouth Flag will be lowered today for Sarah Buckingham. Sarah was a Business and Engineering Reference Librarian at Feldberg Library.
  • Wednesday, May 19
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Wed., 5/19 and Thurs., 5/20, to honor the memory of Brent A. Homoleski, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.
  • Monday, May 17
    Governor John Lynch has directed flags on all state buildings to half-staff on Monday to mark New Hampshire Law Enforcement Memorial Day in New Hampshire. The Dartmouth flag will not be flown at this time.
  • Thursday, April 29
    The US Flag is to be flown at half staff on Thursday, April 29, 2010. At this time the Dartmouth flag will not be flown unless there is a death in the Dartmouth community.
  • March 2 & 3
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 2 and 3, to honor the memory of Carl Ferdinand Long, Dean of Thayer School, Professor of Engineering, Emeritus.
  • January 15 & 16
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Friday and Saturday, January 15 and 16, to honor the memory of James Scott, Professor, Department of Earth Sciences.

2009 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

  • December 15 & 16
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 15 and 16, to honor the memory of Evelyn Stefansson Nef, Doctor of Humane Letters, '02.
  • December 8 & 9
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8 and 9, to honor the memory of Philip K. Langan, Security, Hood Museum.
  • November 30 & December 1
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Monday and Tuesday, November 30 and December 1, to honor the memory of Henry Masters, graduate student, Class of 2010, Master of Public Health.
  • November 24 & 25
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 24 and 25, to honor the memory of Leonard E. Morrissey, Jr., Tuck '48, Professor of Accounting, Emeritus, Tuck School of Business.

    The United States flag that will be lowered on Sunday, December 7, in remembrance of the veterans of Pearl Harbor, 1941.

    The Dartmouth Flag will be lowered today, Wednesday, December 3, and tomorrow, Thursday, December 4, to honor Arthur R. Kantrowitz, Professor of Engineering, Emeritus.

    The Dartmouth Flag will be lowered today, Thursday, November 6, and tomorrow, Friday, November 7, to honor Gary J. Siegel, Heating Plant Operator.

    The Dartmouth flag is lowered in memory of Lawrence W. James, the former Food Court manager in Thayer Dining Hall, who died on Tuesday, June 12.

    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered and the US Flag flown at half staff in honor of the death of Franconia Police Cpl. Bruce McKay until further notice as ordered by the Governor of New Hampshire John Lynch.

2006 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

  • December 27, 2006
    By Presidential proclamation, the American flag will be flown at half staff for 30 days, in honor of the late President Gerald R. Ford, who died December 26. As is customary, the Dartmouth flag will not be flown at this time.

    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Margaret A. Otto, Librarian of the College, Emerita who recently passed away.
  • December 8-9, 2006
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Donald L. Kreider, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, Emeritus who died on Dec. 7, 2006.
  • December 7, 2006
    The Dartmouth Flag will not be flown and the US flag will be at half staff on December 7th for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
  • November 7-8, 2006
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Henry Terrie, Jr., Professor of English, Emeritus who passed away November 1, 2006.

    Governor John Lynch has directed that the American flag be lowered until further notice to honor Michael Briggs, a Manchester, NH police officer who was shot and died in the line of duty.
