2008 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

  • July 12-13, 2008
    The Dartmouth Flag will be lowered Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, to honor Robert B. Graham, Jr. '40, Director, Dartmouth News Service, Emeritus
  • June 6-7, 2008
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, to honor Peter D. Williamson, '58, Professor of Medicine
  • May 23-24, 2008
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24, to honor William L. Baldwin, John French Professor of Economics, Emeritus.

2007 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

    The US Flag is to be flown at half staff as mandated by the US Government in honor of Korean War Veterans Day. The Dartmouth flag will not be flown.
  • July 25-26, 2007
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered today and again tomorrow to honor Hayley Petit. Hayley was to begin this fall as a member of the Class of 2011.

    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Donna M. Gaffney who passed away this past weekend. Donna was the Manager of the Copy Center.

    The Dartmouth flag is lowered in memory of Lawrence W. James, the former Food Court manager in Thayer Dining Hall, who died on Tuesday, June 12.

    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered and the US Flag flown at half staff in honor of the death of Franconia Police Cpl. Bruce McKay until further notice as ordered by the Governor of New Hampshire John Lynch.

2006 Dartmouth Flag Lowerings

  • December 27, 2006
    By Presidential proclamation, the American flag will be flown at half staff for 30 days, in honor of the late President Gerald R. Ford, who died December 26. As is customary, the Dartmouth flag will not be flown at this time.
  • December 11-12, 2006
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Margaret A. Otto, Librarian of the College, Emerita who recently passed away.
  • December 8-9, 2006
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Donald L. Kreider, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, Emeritus who died on Dec. 7, 2006.
  • December 7, 2006
    The Dartmouth Flag will not be flown and the US flag will be at half staff on December 7th for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
  • November 7-8, 2006
    The Dartmouth flag will be lowered to honor Henry Terrie, Jr., Professor of English, Emeritus who passed away November 1, 2006.
  • October 17, 2006
    Governor John Lynch has directed that the American flag be lowered until further notice to honor Michael Briggs, a Manchester, NH police officer who was shot and died in the line of duty.
  • July 7 - 8, 2006

    James O. Freedman, the 15th President of Dartmouth College who passed away on Tuesday.
  • February 7, 2006
    By Presidential proclamation, the American flag is flown at half-staff on February 7 in honor of Coretta Scott King, who died on January 30. Following flag protocol, the Dartmouth flag will not be flown at this time.
