The Dartmouth College Budget

November 2004
Sponsored Research:

Dartmouth has seen impressive growth in recent years from sponsored project activity, including an increase of 23.8 percent in the dollar value of awards received, from $165.1 million in fiscal 2003 to $205.5 million in fiscal 2004. The increase is largely attributed to the quality of our faculty and their ability to succeed in competing for research dollars in a tightening sponsored funding environment. Part of this growth is specifically attributable to the receipt of a single $18 million award to support the Information Infrastructure Protection Cybersecurity Consortium (I3P) to be spent over several years. In addition, Dartmouth has received awards for collaborative projects, with multiple activities across departments and divisions; these are typically funded at a higher dollar amount than the traditional single-project awards.
