Incoming Director Dan Rockmore has announced three new exciting funding initiatives from the Neukom Institute; two of these are explicitly interdisciplinary, intended to generate fruitful collaborations:
1. The Neukom Postdoctoral Fellows Program: These are three-year instructorships akin to well-known and highly prestigious positions such as the Harvard Fellows Program, but with the "twist" that successful candidates (whose work has a computational theme) must be jointly mentored by Dartmouth faculty from at least two departments. This will automatically create an interdisciplinary cluster of activity. We will hire our first two Fellows this year to start in the fall of 2012.
2. The Neukom Working Groups Program: This program will fund small, focused collaborations (involving eight or so participants) that, as above, must be proposed by faculty from at least two departments. The themes must be in part computational.
3. The Neukom Workshop Program: This program will support larger research meetings.
