Utah's Katrin Smigun became the first dual-winner at the 2003 NCAA Skiing Men's and Women's National Collegiate Championships Friday, winning the women's 15-kilometer classical cross country race in front of more than 1,000 fans at the Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center.

Smigun, who won Wednesday's 5-kilometer freestyle event, finished the Oak Hill course in 46:30.7, nearly 50 seconds ahead of Sigrid Aas of Alaska-Fairbanks, in second place in 47:19.5. Denver University's Karin Camenisch was third in 47:26.0.

In the men's 20-kilometer event, Northern Michigan's Chris Cook overtook Vermont's Ethan Foster in the final 200 meters and hung on to win the race in 58:43.4. Foster crossed the finish line nearly tied with Cook, and took second in 58:43.6. Alaska-Anchorage's Tobias Schwoerer was third in 58:56.4.

With Friday's results, the Utes extend their lead over second-place New Mexico in the team standings. Utah is in first place with 539 points, while New Mexico has 439.5 points. Colorado, which had slipped to fourth place after Thursday's giant slalom, regains third place with 424.5; three-time defending champion Denver stands in fourth place with 381.5 followed by Vermont with 374.

The NCAA Skiing Championships concludes Saturday with the men's and women's slalom races at the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme Center, NH. For complete NCAA results and information, see
