Spectator recommendations for the NCAA Ski Championships March 5-8

Cross country events -- the Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center at Oak Hill, Hanover, March 5 and 7

Transportation/Parking --

  • Spectators may park in the Garipay lot on Resevoir Rd. and in the Dartmouth Printing lot off Route 10. Free shuttle buses will run continually from the outer lots to the venue at Oak Hill beginning at 7 a.m.
  • Parking at Oak Hill will be limited to competitor teams and race officials. NO spectators will be allowed to park at Oak Hill, so allow a little extra time to get to the race.
  • The Advance Transit "Brown" line runs from the Hanover Inn to the CRREL drop-off every half hour beginning at 6:55am and returns throughout the day beginning at 7:03am.

    Watching the races --

  • Start lists and maps will be available at the entrance to the venue.
  • Food concessions will also be on site.
  • Please stay off the competition trails or walk along the extreme edge of the prepared trail. There are groomed access trails to get out on the course. During the competition there should be no movement by spectators along the race trails.
  • Under no circumstances should you impede the progress of competitors or damage the race trail surface.

    Alpine events -- the Dartmouth Skiway, Lyme Center, NH March 6 and 8

    Transportation/Parking --

  • Shuttle buses will run regularly on race days from the bus stop on Wheelock Street between the Hanover Inn and the Hopkins Center. Buses on Thursday -- with a one-way fare of $3 -- depart at 9:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and return to Hanover from the Skiway at 11:30 a.m,, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday buses -- free of charge -- depart from Hanover at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; return trips from the Skiway run at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Spectators driving to the site will be parked in the Skiway parking lot. There is no parking allowed along Grafton Turnpike.

    Watching the races --

  • Start lists will be available near the finish line of the giant slalom course (on Don Worden's Schuss) and the slalom course (on Lowell Thomas trail.)
  • Food is available at the cafeteria in the McLane Family Lodge.
  • For Thursday's giant slalom, spectator areas will be set up along the lower-third of Worden's Schuss and adjacent to the finish line. For Saturday's slalom, a spectator area will be set up along the lower-third of Lowell Thomas and adjacent to the finish line. The upper part of the course is viewable from the Winslow Quad chair and the adjacent Howie Chivers trail. At no time, however, will spectators be allowed inside the fence surrounding the race courses.
