Native American Studies: Facilities

Native American Program

The Native American Program (NAP) provides student support services. It has its own director and works with students, administrators, campus-wide faculty and programs to insure the success of Native American students through their four-year residency on campus. NAP personnel provide spiritual, emotional, and personal support to inuser the success and retention of students as they strive to achieve their goals in a demanding academic environment.

In 1992 a record high of 142 Native American students from 30 states and 55 different tribes were enrolled at the College. Student graduation rates have grown significantly since the inception of the Native American Studies Program in 1972. During the first decade of the Program's existence, the Native student graduation rate averaged 50%; since that time the rate has risen to an average of 72%, nearly ten times the average graduation rate for Native Americans attending college nationwide.
