NAAAD Awarded Coveted Alumni Honor

Will accept award at Annual Pow Wow For the first time in the history of Dartmouth College, a Native American Alum will be awarded the Distinguished Service award from the Alumni Council. The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor that the Alumni Council can bestow.

The winner of this award will receive the honor at the Annual Dartmouth Pow Wow taking place May 13-14, 2000 in Hanover, NH. The Alumni Office has asked that we not reveal the name of the recipient.

The 28th Annual Dartmouth Pow-Wow is approaching!

This year's pow wow will be held May 13 and 14, on the green (rain site Thompson Arena) in Hanover. This year our Host Drum will be the Zotigh Singers, from Albuquerque, New Mexico (and including several NAD alums!). All other head staff to be announced at a later date.

The Pow-Wow will also feature arts and crafts, a drum contest, dance contest, free admission, and free community dinner on Saturday.

On Friday, May 12, the Hopkins Center will be presenting John Trudell and Bad Dog in the Spaulding Theater at 8 PM. For more information on the performance or for tickets, call the Hopkins Center box office at (603) 646-2422.

NAD CLASS OF 1999!

From: Mae Drake and John Hueston
Sent: Monday, March 06, 2000 3:06 PM
Subject: Kinsale Drake Hueston

Kinsale was born at 8:49am on Saturday morning. She's a mellow 8 lb.. 1 oz. cutie pie (well, excluding the puffy eyes, red marks on eyes and eyeballs, etc.) with one deep dimple on her right cheek (deep like one of Ryan's dimples).

She's got the Hueston's big second toe, and chin with the Drake floppy top of ears, dark hair (which may fall out and be replaced by fine "orangish" hair, like Tara's did), a hairy body, and dark skin. She looks very similar to Tara when Tara was born. She's not as mellow as Tara nor as rambunctious as Ryan. I'm sure she'll develop her own look soon but right now she's just a neat little bundle of love.

She's got a jaundice and is having a little trouble eating right now so we're mellowing at home with frequent visits to the doctor for tests and observations for next couple of weeks.

I'm doing very well, surprisingly, although I am a little sore now (I forgot that you get sore from the tensing and use of the muscles during the pushing, duh), and I am super duper glad to be home for my birthday.

Thanks again for everything. Kinsale, John, the kids, and I feel the love and strength from all of you.
