Robert Schumann was an influential composer of the 19th Century. He began as a pianist, but after an unfortunate accident crippled his hand, he turned fully to composing. Schumann married Clara Schumann (born Wieck), who was a virtuosic pianist of the time period. Schumann is noted largely for his songs and keyboard works, but he also composed a large number of works for other mediums. After trying to commit suicide by throwing himself into a river, he was placed in an insane asylum in Endenich (suburb of Bonn), where he passed away. This page aims to give a comprehensive look at Schumann's life and works.
