Ignance Pleyel, was not only an innovator of the piano, but a gifted composer as well. By the end of his life, 41 symphonies and 70 quartets were published under his name.

With the aim of adapting instruments to the new requirements of the composers and musicians of his day, Ignace Pleyel began manufacturing Pleyel pianos in 1807, dedicating himself exclusively to this new activity from then on. Pleyel's major contribution to the development piano was the first use of a metal frame in a piano. By his death in 1831, Ignace Pleyel had become an established supplier of the Empress Josephine and all the other European courts, and exported his pianos throughout Europe, North and South America and the Eastern world.
