Jon Appleton is a composer of both instrumental and electro-acoustic music. He has been on the Dartmouth faculty since 1967. He has previously taught in Sweden, at the Moscow Conservatory of Music, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. In 2003 he was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States. He has been the recipient of Guggenheim, Fulbright, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities and American-Scandinavian Foundation fellowships. His newest recordings are "Appleton Syntonic Menagerie II" on Phonomena and "Wunderbra!" with Achim Treu on Crippled Dick Hot Wax. Appleton is currently a Visiting Professor at the Center for Computer Research in Music an Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. In the Winter and Spring he will be a Composition Fellow at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France and a visiting composer at the Le Groupe de Recherches Musicales at the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel in Paris. He will teach his last course at Dartmouth in Summer 2008.
