Why?

Trash. Sure, it's not move-out trash. But it's still trash.Dartmouth produces and incredible amount of waste each year - especially around move-out times. Every June sees a 300% spike in trash production. Much of this waste can be reused - and Sustainable Dartmouth is working on reclaiming the waste that is generated during move-out.

Students benefit because they can easily get rid of their unwanted items. Students can also purchase any of the collected items in the fall. The college benefits because the moveout reduces the total waste generated, which saves money both in garbage dumping fees and in personel expenditures in dealing with all of the waste.
