Robert Penn Warren

Robert Penn Warren, writer and critic, best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, All the King's Men. After study at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, he began a distinguished career as a teacher and critic at several universities, notably Louisiana State and Yale. Warren won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry for his volume Promises (1957), and a second Pulitzer Prize for the poems in Now and Then (1979). Among his many honors are the Bollingen Prize in Poetry and an award from the MacArthur Foundation. (deceased, 9/15/89)
