Joseph Persico

Joseph Persico was an author, researcher, and former speechwriter for Vice President of the United States, Nelson A. Rockefeller. In 1952, after receiving a BA in both English and Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany, he entered the US Navy and remained in the military for three more years. Persico served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade aboard a minesweeper and also with NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Headquarters in Naples, Italy. Returning to the States in 1956, he matriculated at Columbia University in New York for his graduate work. He received a PhD from the State University of New York at Albany in 1996.

Joseph Persico collaborated with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State, Colin L. Powell, on the latter's biography. In the twenty-first century, Joseph Persico has continued to write books on historical subjects. In November 2001, Random House Inc. will release Roosevelt's Secret War: FDR and World War II Espionage, the next installment in the Persico line of publications.
