Joan DidionJoan Didion, novelist, essayist, and screenwriter, has observed the country's cultural and political landscape with what John Leonard called "her sonar ear, her radar eye" for the last four and a half decades. Author of five novels and eight books of nonfiction, she won the National Book Award for The Year of Magical Thinking in 2005, a poignant memoir of her grief following the sudden death of her husband, the writer John Gregory Dunne.
