John Burns, journalist, has headed several news bureaus for the New York Times. After reporting for five years from Baghdad he recently became the Times London Bureau Chief. A veteran international reporter, he won the George Polk Award for foreign reporting for coverage of Africa in 1978 and two Pulitzer Prizes, first in 1993 for his coverage of the destruction of Sarajevo and again in 1997 for his coverage of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
