Hello delegates and advisers, my name is Chris Talamo and it is my honor to serve as the Secretary General of DartMUN 2009. I'm very excited to be working for all of you this year, and if I have any say in the matter, DartMUN 2009 will be the best Model United Nations experience New England has to offer. This year, my main philosophy is similar to that of our College's: grow enough to a point where students can benefit from the wealth of resources and experiences around them, but not so large as to lose the friendly personality that everybody loves. But let me take this opportunity to really introduce myself. I am a sophomore at Dartmouth College and have done MUN for 6 unforgettable years and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. Outside of my MUN life, I am a Physics/Astronomy double major and maybe an international studies minor, and I will be embarking on research in cosmology this year. I enjoy all sorts of odd things, including classical music from the Romantic era (Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Dvorak) and classical Roman and Greek literature (Homer, Virgil, Plato). I'm seeking to become a theoretical cosmologist in my post-graduate life, but am desperately seeking ways to keep participating in MUN after I graduate.

Greetings from Hanover! I'm Katie Paxton, and I'll be an Under Secretary General at DartMUN 2009. This is my sixth year as an active member of the Model UN world. I have competed in numerous conferences at Harvard and with my high school in New York City, and was the director of DartMUN's UNDP last spring. I'm very excited about my job this year as a USG because it gives me a chance to work behind the scenes and help create the background guides and topics that will be the basis for your debate. We can't wait to see where you as delegates take things! My favorite aspect of working with Dartmouth's Model UN is that, like the College itself, you will find hard work, exceptional resources, and a personalized experience. All of our committees are small, our topics and preparation executed by experienced staffers, and our delegates and dais staffs committed to having stimulating and intelligent debate. I look forward to getting to know many of the delegates and advisors once the conference begins!

Hi all, my name is Chris Bachand-Parente (or just Chris BP), and I'm the Director of External Affairs for DartMUN 2009. I am really excited for this years conference because of all of the great delegates we expect to come and because of the new changes and additions to the conference that will help it be greater than ever. My goal is to get the strongest core of delegates we have had yet, and to make sure that the conference is as fun as it is intense. I have been involved with Model U.N. for six years as a delegate, crisis staffer, director, and dais member, but I really have to say that DartMUN 2009 will be completely different and very exciting. Good luck to all of you and have fun.

Jerry Guo is a junior at Dartmouth majoring in Classical Archaeology and Economics. He is currently taking a term off to work as a research assistant at the Naval Postgraduate School. He will be traveling to Greece in the spring of 2009. Jerry was the Secretary-General of DartMUN 2008 and currently serves as the Chair of the DartMUN Steering Committee. He also serves as the Undersecretary-General for Special Committees at the National High School Model United Nations Conference. In his free time, Jerry enjoys killing fleas, sleeping in a garage, and being in perpetual shambles.

Hi, I want to take a moment and welcome you and or encourage you to come to this year’s DartMUN. I am a sophomore at the college studying applied mathematics and computer science, with the hope of applying these tools to real world problems. As director of ICJ, I look forward to positing rigorous scenarios and seeing you confront them. I have had six years of experience participating in and administrating model congresses and am excited to play a role in making this year’s DartMUN the most successful.

Max Ross is a sophomore at Dartmouth College and will be majoring in Romance Languages. As a part of this major, he enjoys the ability to travel to countries around the world whose languages and cultures relate to his study. Max has been involved with Model United Nations for six years -- both as a delegate and as a conference staff member. Max was the Conference Director of DartMUN 2008 and is currently the Director of Campus Affairs for DartMUN 2009. His areas of responsibility include the acquisition and management of all conference rooms and facilities, the coordination of events and activities for faculty advisers, and the orchestration of the delegate social. He also facilitates communications and security during all committee sessions and conference events. Max also serves as the Director of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (the Fourth Committee on the General Assembly Mains organ) at the National High School Model United Nations Conference held annually in New York. In his free time, Max has many hobbies and interests, but none is quite as strong as his love of television show LOST. He invites delegate or faculty adviser fans to contact him to discuss their favorite characters and/or theories, or alternatively, to find out why they should begin watching the best show in modern television!
