Greetings Prospective Delegates and Faculty Advisers,

My name is Christopher Talamo, and it is my pleasure to serve you as the Secretary General for DartMUN 2009. Putting on this conference is proving to be one of the greatest joys of my college career, and based on the superb output of my staff, I believe they’re as excited as I am.

Throughout my career as an MUN delegate and staffer, I’ve always believed that active simulation is the best form of education. Delegates can read about UN involvement in historical topics like the Korean War or current ones like Darfur, but the act of producing those policies enhances their educations in a way a classroom never can. This is the guiding principle behind DartMUN. We strive every year to provide delegates with the opportunity to experience everything that the United Nations does in as realistic an environment as possible.

This year, we are expanding our docket of committees while maintaining the close, immersive experience that both delegates and faculty advisers in years past have enjoyed. Our General Assembly and ECOSOC programs are offering a diverse set of topics and committees, so whether delegates want to debate weapons and security or humanitarian relief efforts and infrastructure development, there is a committee waiting for them. Our Specialized Committees are also growing to meet new interests. In addition to our intensive Security Council and ICJ committees, we are offering the Press Corps and a Crisis Cabinet for those wishing to broaden their international education beyond the “New York” debating that takes place within the UN building.

Our energy isn’t only being devoted to our committees. We are also proud to announce that we will be holding our first delegate social on Saturday night so delegates may reach beyond the formal décor of international relations and unwind after a long day of rigorous debate. The faculty advisers haven’t been forgotten, either! In addition to our adviser lounge, which will feature a number of edible indulgences to satisfy the most insatiable sweet tooth, we will also be hosting a number of activities and seminars to make theirs a truly memorable experience as well.

This simple letter doesn’t even begin to cover our extensive program for the year, so if our conference interests you, we encourage you to look further into what we offer. We are always excited to hear from schools interested in DartMUN 2009, so if you have any questions about our prospectus, feel free to contact us at dartmun@dartmouth.edu.

We may be a young conference, but what distinguishes us from other New England conferences is our mixture of effective professionalism and friendly personality. All of us serving at DartMUN hope you will allow us to share that with you over the course of the coming year.

Secretary-General’s Welcome
