| At Dartmouth: Byrne continued to show improvement in his second season, appearing in 28 games and posting career-highs in points (11) and assists (5). Byrne tallied his first multiple-point game of the season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (11/28) when he potted two goals in a span of 21 seconds. Byrne's second two-point game came in a 3-2 league win against Cornell, when he scored the gamewinner and added an assist. Byrne also scored goals against Niagara (11/8), Colgate (11/21) and Princeton (2/27). Byrne enjoyed the most successful rookie campaign among the Class of 2001, tallying seven goals in 21 games. He was awarded the Booma Award, given to the team's outstanding freshman. Byrne notched his first collegiate goal in the Big Green's opener at Army (10/31). He also potted goals against Clarkson (1/16) and St. Lawrence (1/17). Byrne registered his first two-goal game in an 8-1 victory against Union (2/20).
High School/Juniors: Byrne led the Deerfield Academy hockey team with 37 points (17g, 20a). Prior to Deerfield, Byrne attended Hingham High School. At Hingham, he was a two-time most valuable player and leading scorer, a two-time first team all-league selection and a two-time Boston Globe all-scholastic athlete.
Personal: Michael lists his father as the most influential person in his hockey career and cheers for Eric Lindros and the Philadelphia Flyers. Michael's favorite movie is Good Will Hunting, and he likes the sounds of the Dave Matthews Band. |
