HANOVER, N.H. -- Jamie Herrington's goal with 15:29 left in the third period proved to be the gamewinner as the Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated Western Michigan, 4-3, Saturday night.
Herrington took a feed from linemate Mike Maturo and broke in alone on Bronco goalie Chris Peck, giving Dartmouth a 4-2 lead.
Western Michigan (6-6-2) narrowed the Big Green lead to 4-3 with 5:04 left in regulation when Corey Waring scored on a slap shot from the right point.
Dartmouth (2-3-2) took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Dan Casella and Mike Murray. Western Michigan tied it at two apiece when Brent Rumble scored from a tough angle followed 2:01 later by Steve Rymsha's goal.
Dartmouth regained the lead, 3-2, just 22 seconds later when Ryan Sinclair scored.
For the Big Green, sophomore Gary Hunter was the only player with multiple points, having a two-assist night. He set up the Murray and Sinclair goals.
In the nets, WMU's Peck made 30 saves in his first varsity action of the season. For Dartmouth, Nick Boucher stopped 18 shots.
