Attendance: 2,920

Officials: Campatelli (R), St. Louis, Legault

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- The Dartmouth College men's hockey team seemed to do everything right on Friday night at Clarkson University. The Big Green outplayed and outshot the Golden Knights, however, they ran into hot goaltending and a strong power play as Clarkson defeated Dartmouth, 2-1, in front of 2,920 at the Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.

With the loss, the Big Green falls to 7-12-1 (3-9-1 ECAC) while the Golden Knights improve to 13-9-1 (10-3-0 ECAC). The Clarkson win moves them into first place in the league as both Princeton and St. Lawrence had games at hand.

"Every guy on our bench gave it his all tonight," head coach Bob Gaudet said. "The guys worked extremely hard and deserved a better fate. With continued effort like tonight, things will fall into place for us."

Dartmouth had chances in each of the three periods, outshooting Clarkson, 39-27 in the game. Golden Knights goalkeeper Shawn Grant turned aside 38 shots while his conterpart, the Big Green's Eric Almon made 25 saves.

Clarkson scored the eventual gamewinner and the first of its two second period power play goals just 53 seconds in when Philippe Roy fired a slap shot past a screened Almon. The Knights' Mikko Ollila and Willie Mitchell assisted on Roy's eighth goal of the season.

Clarkson converted its next power play oppurtunity at the 4:39 mark. With the Big Green's Ryan Chaytors in the box for high-sticking, Matt Poapst collected an Ollila rebound and wristed a shot past a fallen Almon for a 2-0 lead.

Dartmouth cut the Knights lead in half when Dory Tisdale deposited the puck into the back of the net from the blueline following a faceoff win by Dan Casella, who has three points in the last two games. For Tisdale, it was his third goal of the season.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period with Dartmouth outshooting Clarkson, 11-9. Almon made a key stop on Yan Turgeon, who tried a wrap around and collected his own rebound for a second chance.
