NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Dartmouth men's hockey team headed out on the road in need of victories. For starters, the Big Green had lost three straight and most important points were slipping away in the ECAC standing.

Dartmouth responded with solid road weekend of hockey. On Friday, the Big Green defeated the eighth ranked Princeton Tigers and on Saturday, Dartmouth tied last year's ECAC and Ivy League champion Yale University, 2-2.

The Big Green inches closer to .500 and stands at 6-8-1 (2-5-1 ECAC) while the Bulldogs sit at 5-8-1 (4-5-1 ECAC).

In a game of the goalies, Dartmouth keeper Eric Almon made 29 saves in the game, including 12 in the third period and a huge stop on Norwich, Vt.'s Mark Turco in overtime, while his counterpart Alex Westlund turned aside 27 shots.

Down, 2-1, the Bulldogs forced the extra session, scoring with just 1:08 seconds left to play in regulation. Francois Magnant received a pass in front of the Dartmouth goal and fired the puck over the shoulder of Almon.

The second period included 24 combined minutes in penalties. The Big Green took advantage of a few of them and continued its amazing shorthanded play with two tallies. The duo of Ryan Chaytors and Jamie Herrington has now recorded five shorthanded goals.

The Big Green took a 2-1 lead, again scoring with a man in the penalty box. This time, Herrington was sent in alone on Westlund thanks to a perfect feed from David Risk - playing in his 100th career game for Dartmouth - and wristed a shot into the back of the net for his fifth goal and second shorthanded. Curtis Wilgosh also picked up an assist.

With Mike Maturo serving a hitting from behind penalty, Chaytors stole a breakout pass from a Yale defender and broke in alone on Westlund. Chaytors wasted little time scoring his fifth of the season and third shorthanded goal of the year.

Yale answered the Chaytors goal just 21 seconds later as Corey Shea beat Almon with a wrist shot low to the glove side. Keith McCullough and Magnant assisted on the power play goal.
