| At Dartmouth: Wong battled illnesses early last season but came back to give Dartmouth one of the strongest goaltending duos in the ECAC. After starting just one game among the first 12 of the season, Wong stepped back into form, appearing in 12 of the final 17. He finished the season with a 4-7-2 record and a 3.00 goals against average. Wong stopped 28 shots for his first win of the season, 4-3, against Yale University (1/10). He won back-to-back games once during the season, a 2-1 overtime victory at UMass-Lowell (1/27) and a 6-1 win at Vermont (1/31), and Wong was named ECAC/Heaton Goaltender of the Week for his efforts. He burst out of the gates his freshman season, winning his first collegiate start with 20 saves that led to a 3-2 victory at Colgate. Eight days later, Wong had 31 saves, including 14 in the third period, as Dartmouth stunned then fourth-ranked Vermont, 4-1. Wong later turned aside 36 shots, his highest save total of the season, in a 6-2 victory over UMass-Lowell (12/30). He finished his freshman year with a 7-5-1 record and was twice named the ECAC/Bauer Rookie of the Week. Wong was also presented the Booma Award, given to the team's outstanding rookie.
High School/Juniors: With the Surrey Eagles and Richmond Sockeyes, Wong received the top goaltender award for the Pacific International Junior Hockey League in 1993-94, the hardest worker award in 1994-95 and the most sportsmanlike player award in 1995-96. Wong was also a member of the 1993-94 PIJHL Championship team while with the Sockeyes.
Personal: Jason became a goalie after watching his idol Richard Brodeur, formerly of the Vancouver Canucks, which is also Jason's favorite team. He loves to play at UVM's Gutterson Fieldhouse and lists Slapshot as his favorite movie. |
