At Dartmouth: In his junior season, Whitworth was the team leader in points
(38) and assists (21). Clearly an offensive threat any time he
is on the ice, Whitworth recorded 14 multiple point games and
five multiple goal games last season. He was the Ivy League leader
in points with 17 (6g, 11a), earning him first team All-Ivy honors
for the second straight year. He was the league's only unanimous
selection. Whitworth had two four-game scoring streaks. In each
of the two streaks, (12/21-1/3 and 1/31-2/8), he scored seven
points (4g, 3a), and his season-high point total came at Brown
when he assisted on four Big Green goals in an 8-6 loss. As a
sophomre, Whitworth's offensive output made him the team's top
scorer and most valuable player. He was the team leader with 12
goals and 18 assists and his play against Ivy League opponents
earned him first team All-Ivy recognition. As a freshman, Whitworth
tallied a point in each of the last 18 games and finished the
year with 20 points. His strong performance earned him the team's
Booma Award as the top rookie performer. His first career goal
was the game-winner in a 3-2 win at Colgate and he recorded five
points on a goal and four assists against RPI later in the season.
High School: In addition to playing his junior hockey with the Penticton
Panthers, Whitworth earned a total of 15 letters playing golf,
volleyball, basketball and running cross country.
Personal: David enjoys playing just about any sport and especially likes
golf, waterskiing, fishing and weightlifting. He says New York
Rangers center Wayne Gretzky is his role model because "he is
a classy individual on the ice as well as off the ice." He lists
Robert DeNiro as his favorite actor and he likes to eat chocolate
and Italian food. David's favorite aspect of hockey is "lighting
the lamp ? top shelf."
- David Whitworth on Dartmouth
- From the moment I set foot on campus in Hanover, NH I knew that
Dartmouth College was the right place for me. Dartmouth provides
the perfect mix of academics with athletics, for aspiring student
athletes. In fact, the College provides the perfect environment
for achievers of any kind of excellence.
-
- What sets Dartmouth apart from other institutions is the rich
tradition of the school and its students. Each student is special
in his/her own right: from the student who aspires to play in
the NHL to the student who aspires to be the next President of
the United States. From the editors of the school newspapers,
to the presidents of sororities and fraternities, to the artists,
to the musicians, to the actors, to the athletes, to the campus
leaders and to the entire student body comprising Dartmouth College
each person is special in their own right.
- Yet high achievers in themselves do not separate Dartmouth from
every other school. What does distinguish Dartmouth is the sense
of family. Dartmouth students and alumni take great pride in the
schools past and present accomplishments; we take pride in each
other and we take pride in the Big Green.
-
- Like Dartmouth College, the hockey program has a lot to be proud
of. Our winning ways of the past, led by Dartmouth hockey legends
Bill and Joe Riley are something to celebrate and take great pride
in. I am excited to be a part of a team led by an alumni coaching
staff who have been a part of Dartmouth's winning past. They've
been here, they've done it and they know what it takes to win.
It is our goal as the 97-98 team to honor that past and to reclaim
and build a new tradition of winning ways.
GO GREEN GO!
