At Dartmouth: The physical Ness missed his entire junior season due to a broken hand. Possibly the team's top defensive player, Ness appeared in all 30 games as a sophomore. He tallied two assists, but as a player who isn't afraid to go into the corners or stand up an opponent at the blue line, his presence in the defensive zone is his strong suit. As a freshman in 1994-95, Ness broke into the lineup in the second game and appeared in 24 contests. He dished out one assist that year.

High School: Ness played his junior hockey with the Penticton Panthers. He was captain of his high school squad that won the league championship in 1991-92.

Personal: Shane lists his favorite player as New York Rangers all-star Wayne Gretzky, whom he once had the good fortune to meet. Shane's favorite things to eat are pizza and pasta. He lists his favorite actor as Al Pacino and lists his favorite movie as Goodfellas. His most memorable sports moment was scoring on a penalty shot with one minute to play in a game that propelled his team to first place in his junior hockey league.

Shane Ness on Dartmouth
"If you look at what Dartmouth offers, you would be a fool to pass up an opportunity like the chance to attend such a fine school. When I was in the midst of choosing where I wanted to attend college, I wanted a school that combined great athletics with great academics and Dartmouth was the place that provided me with both. While on my recruiting trip, I was reassured of this.

"I was also fortunate enough to play with Shawn Peet and David Whitworh before coming here. The fact that the three of us had this opportunity made it that much easier to come to Dartmouth. Having two great friends before I came meant a lot to me. Since day one, I have found that this is the closest team I have ever played on. The comraderie on this team is unparalled.

"Over the past three years I have come to appreciate the opportunities Dartmouth has presented me. With this in mind, I can say it was the best decision I have ever made."
