POSTDAM, N.Y. -- The Green knew their afternoon tilt against Clarkson on Saturday would be tough, but they probably didn't know Clarkson had improved so much since the two teams met in January. And so although the Green held a 1-0 lead in the second period, they could only hold the floodgates closed for so long.

Eventually, they burst and the Golden Knights cruised to a 5-1 win in their home Cheel Arena.

All in all, the Green played well, but the second-place Golden Knights and their high powered offense proved too much for Dartmouth.

Buckley put the Green up 1-0 at 3:56 of the second, taking a nice feed from Whitworth in the slot and beating Clarkson goalie Dan Murphy to the glove side.

But the Golden Knights struck back with quick precision late in the second, and goals by Phillipe Roy and Buddy Wallace put Clarkson up 2-1.

The Knights added to their edge on a tally from Erik Cole at 6:06 of the third, and Roy's second goal of the night made it 4-1.

Clarkson captain Chris Clark put the exclamation point on the Clarkson win with the night's prettiest goal with 3:02 left in the third.

Clark came down on a two-on-one with Cole on his left. Clark faked a pass to his left and then deked Dartmouth goalie Jason Wong '00 before beating the netminder high to the glove side, making it 5-1 Clarkson.

Wong stopped 26 of the 31 shots he faced for the Green, while Murphy saved 26 of 27 shots.

This weekend the Green have another very tough road trip, as they face the Colgate Red Raiders on Friday night and the Cornell Big Red on Saturday.

Ness said the weekend coming up will be much the same as the Clarkson-SLU trip: “[This weekend's games] are two games that we can win and we will not accept anything but four points. They are both teams we can beat and will have to beat to reach the goal of playing at Lake Placid in March.
