Jay Butler

Strength Coach

About the coach: Jay Butler joined the Dartmouth athletic department as strength and conditioning coach in June, 1996. A 1991 graduate of Bucknell, Butler was a two-time All-America at offensive tackle and a four-year varsity player. He earned his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

After graduation, he played professionally for the New York Giants and the Montreal Machine of the World League of American Football before suffering a career-ending knee injury.

Butler returned to school after his stint in the NFL, attending East Carolina University from 1992-95 and earning a master's degree in business administration in December, 1995. While at East Carolina, he was a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning, designing and implementing programs for 14 varsity teams.

After completing his master's degree, Butler was hired full-time as an assistant director. Among his responsibilities at Dartmouth is designing preseason fitness and conditioning programs for all athletic teams, ranging from hockey to swimming to soccer.
