Press Release: The Dartmouth men's hockey team was rolling in 1996

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Dartmouth men's hockey team was only 7:21 away from making its biggest statement of the season on Saturday. But late in the third period, the first-place Tigers came alive, scoring three goals in four minutes to fuel a 4-2 win at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink.

The loss, the Big Green's fourth in five games, dumped Dartmouth to 8-7 overall, 3-6 in the ECAC. Princeton improved to 13-5-2, 8-4-1.

The deluge started at 12:30 of the third period, when Tiger freshman J.P. Acosta scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game, 2-2.

One and a half minutes later, Princeton took its first lead of the game. Senior J.P. O'Conner beat Dartmouth goalie Eric Almon to finish off a three-on-one break and put the Tigers ahead, 3-2. Princeton added a final insurance goal by sophomore Syl Apps at 16:40 of the final stanza to close out the scoring.

Making his first collegiate start, Tiger freshman goalie Craig Bradley made 21 saves to pick up the victory. Almon ended the night with 31 saves in the losing effort.

Unlike its last couple of contests, Dartmouth was swarming following the opening face-off. As a result, the Big Green was able to jump ahead early. During a five-on-three advantage, senior Owen Hughes buried the first goal of the season past Bradley at 12:46 of the first period. Hughes was assisted by senior Bill Kelleher and junior David Whitworth, both of whom logged three points at Yale on Friday.

The Big Green kept up the intense play in the second period, as sophomore Zach Hafer found the back of the net 5:19 into the session. The goal, assisted by sophomores Dave Risk and Curtis Wilgosh, was the first of Hafer's collegiate career.

Princeton senior Tony Ranaldi got the Tiger offense going with a power-play goal at 11:54 of the second period.
