Dax Burkhart

Defense, team captain

At Dartmouth: In three seasons at Dartmouth, Dax has played in 80 of 81 possible games. Last year, he was a solid defensive presence and matched his offensive totals from the 1993-94 campaign with one goal and ten assists. After undergoing postseason knee surgery, he immersed himself in intensive rehabilitation that appears to have progressed extremely well. As a sophomore, Dax improved his scoring output from his rookie year with one goal and 10 assists for 11 points. Offense aside, his biggest contribution is solid defensive play and excellent penalty-killing. Dax took home the 1993-94 Smoyer Award as the Big Green's unsung hero. Freshman year, Dax scored four goals to tie Bill Kelleher for the team lead among rookies. Two of those goals, including the gamewinner, came in a 5-4 victory against Princeton at home. He also found the twine in the playoff game that year with Colgate. Dax shared the team's Booma Award for rookie of the year with Kelleher.

High School: Dax played his junior hockey with the Omaha Lancers.

Personal: Dax lists chocolate and chicken as his favorite foods. His favorite movie is the classic sci-fi thriller Star Wars, and he will read anything by author Tom Clancy. Dax likes to draw in his spare time, and after graduation, he hopes to play hockey in Europe. Dax says Vermont's Gutterson Arena is the toughest rink to play in because of the "wide ice surface and rabid fans."

Dax Burkhart on Dartmouth

"I have yet to meet a student who has regretted coming here. It isn't just the magnificent sight of Baker Tower from the Green or the traditional bonfire on Dartmouth Night. It is a combination of the tradition, the site and the people that make Dartmouth an unforgettable place. For everything I've learned in class, for all the friends I've made and wonderful people I have met, I shall always be grateful.
"All of us came to this team to help bring back the winning tradition of Dartmouth Hockey. With a strong core of talented players returning and a equally strong recruiting class joining us, the 1995-96 team is looking forward to an exciting season. Our determination, hard work and persistence will lead us to victory."
