NHL Draft Pick: Byrne entered his freshman year at Dartmouth after being tabbed a fifth round selection (143rd overall) by the St. Louis Blues.

At Dartmouth: Byrne emerged as a force on the blueline on both sides of the ice. He led all Big Green defensemen in scoring with 26 points, including a team-high 21 assists. He was fifth overall in the ECAC among defensemen and was a second team All-ECAC selection as well as first team All-Ivy. Byrne had seven multiple point games, including three helpers in a win against Harvard (2/9). He had a five-game point-scoring streak (1/13-1/27) and had six points (1g, 5a). When Byrne assisted a goal, the Big Green was 10-4-1, and 4-1-0 when he scored a goal. As a freshman, Byrne was named to the ECAC All-Rookie team after recording 10 points (3g, 7a) in league games. Byrne was also selected honorable mention All-Ivy after scoring four points (2g, 2a). He appeared in all 30 games and finished second on the team in defensemen scoring with 12 points (3g, 9a). Byrne had a four-point night in a 5-5 tie against Princeton (11/12), including two goals.

High School/Juniors: Byrne is a graduate of Deerfield Academy and was named co-New England Prep School Player of the Year. He collected 28 points (9g, 19a) with Deerfield and was All-New England. Byrne also participated in Hockey Night in Boston and was the Massachusetts Defensive Player of the Year along with most valuable player and All-Scholastic.

Personal: Byrne lists Friends and MTV’s Tough Enough as his favorite television shows. Away from the rink, Byrne enjoys kickboxing. He names the Dallas Stars’ Derien Hatcher as his favorite NHL player.
