At Dartmouth: Summerfelt enjoyed a successful freshman campaign, finishing first among defensemen in scoring with 16 points (5g, 11a). He was tied for second on the team and was also second in ECAC scoring with 13 points (4g, 9a). Summerfelt closed out the year with a four-game point scoring streak (3/3-3/11), collecting six points (2g, 4a). He had a career-high three helpers at Clarkson (3/3) and had three multiple-point games. Summerfelt had two assists against Princeton (11/12) and scored a goal and assist against Clarkson (1/30). He netted his first collegiate goal in a 4-1 win at Brown (11/6). The Big Green had a winning record when Summerfelt got on the scoreboard.

High School/Juniors: Summerfelt was an assistant captain for the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League and finished the season with 30 points (6g, 24a). He was a member of the 1998 USHL Clark Cup champions and was named to the all-star team. Summerfelt was also named to the USHL King of the Hill team and the USA Hockey Freedom Cup team. He played on the 1996 Alaska All-Star team that won the Midget championship.

Personal: Summerfelt lists VH1's Behind the Music as his favorite TV show and Top Gun and Dazed and Confused as his top movie choices. He played with current Big Green forward, Gary Hunter, while with the Penticton Panthers. Summerfelt names Korn and 311 as his favorite music groups and cheers for 2000 Hart and Norris Trophy winner, Chris Pronger, of the St. Louis Blues.
