21st Annual Nevola Symposium on Spirituality and Health:
Spiritually Grounded Healing Environments and Practices

As we begin our third decade of annual Nevola Symposia, we will explore together a range of issues and practical approaches in the connections of spirituality and health. Dr. Puchalski… among the foremost national experts in this field… will present two keynotes drawing upon her experience as a physician and educator in end-of-life care, assessment of patients' spirituality, and curricular development of spirituality and medicine courses. She will also discuss her landmark study (in the May/June 2006 issue of Health Progress) about creating spiritually-grounded, healing environments at medical centers across the country. Interactive workshops will address the spirituality and centeredness of caregivers, issues of belief systems and suffering in patients, healing qualities in health care organizations, and the timely subject of beliefs, practices and healing in Islam. We will have opportunities to partake of creative expression in visual arts and to lift the spirit with West African ceremonial drumming and African American Gospel singing. And we will, of course, have our customary music, gourmet food and networking with kindred friends and colleagues, old and new.
