The Molecular Biology Core facility has an Applied BioSystems (ABI) Model 476A sequencer. The model 476A sequencer uses Edman chemistry which has been slightly modified to accommodate automated sequencing. The Model 476A will perform both gas phase and pulsed liquid sequencing. It is ideal instrument for a situation where a mixture of sample types, such as PVDF blots or samples in solution, are encountered.The model 476A is capable of sequencing low picomolar quantities of purified proteins.
