This film is a unique and extraordinary response to the catastrophic events in New York City that shook the world on September 11, 2001. The French film company Studio Canal invited 11 renowned international directors to create a film lasting eleven minutes, nine seconds and one frame - 11'09''01.
Each filmmaker's entry takes a different approach. It's not a pontificating and solemn commemoration of this historical event.
Samira Makhmalbaf (Iran)
An Iranian teacher tries to tell Afghan refugee schoolchildren about the towers collapsing. But the destruction of the twin towers is quite remote for them. She finds them uncomprehending. Some of them say "God doesn't destroy humans" ... "He doesn't have airplanes!" The teacher leads them out of the school to view the smoking chimney of a brick kiln, the tallest structure in the arid landscape.
Claude Lelouch (France)
It is a small drama set in New York, where a deaf girl and her boyfriend are struggling with their relationship when he leaves to take a deaf tour group to the World Trace Center. With her own world falling apart, she's not watching the images on the television in the next room.
Youssef Chahine (Egypt)
Director Youssef Chahine directs a surreal segment and plays himself. In his entry, Egyptian director Youssef Chahine, playing himself, meets with the ghosts of a Marine killed in the 1983 bombing of US barracks in Beirut and the suicide bomber who carried out the attack. The director counts up those killed by US policy in places such as Vietnam and Indonesia for the Marine. What upsets him, and what he questions, is how far from American ideals American leaders often deviate.
Danis Tanovic (Bosnia)
This story is contributed about the mourners of those killed in the vicious Balkan wars of the mid-1990s. Tanovic shows his home country in chaos--people wounded and grieving, unable to go home. in a still war-scarred and too-quiet town center women are preparing to demonstrate as usual. When they get the news from New York their march takes on a new meaning.
Idrissa Ouedraogo (Burkina-Faso)
some kids are convinced they saw Ben Laden in Ouagadougou; they foment a plan to capture him and obtain the $25 million reward promised by the US. With this money, they erect dreams of social progress, including health care.
Ken Loach (UK)
Ken Loach holds the United States responsible of the September 11th tragedy. Narrated by Vladimir Vega, a Chilean exile living in London, Loach's contribution compares the events of Sept. 11, 1973 in Chile to Sept. 11, 2001 in the United States. On another 911 a US-led coup bombed Santiago. Some 30,000 people, including the elected president Allende, were killed. It's a shameful episode, and it led to the brutal military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Mexico))
Inarritu takes an experimental approach, less a narrative than a sensory experience. It leaves the screen completely blank except for brief glimpses of the worst footage--people jumping from the towers. The soundtrack features a blend of music, voices and news reports.

Amos Gitai (Israel)
Gitai shows us the aftermath of a car bombing in Tel Aviv, but as the film crew cover the event they're told their footage won't go out because something has happened in New York.
Mira Nair (India)
It's a true story about a Pakistani family in New York looking for their missing son. Since he was a Muslim, everyone assumes he was a terrorist. But actually he is a hero.
Sean Penn (USA)
An old man lives in the memory of his late wife. His days pass, monotonous, until the day when the towers collapse near his apartment. The light penetrates his gloomy sanctuary and provokes in him a terrible awareness of loss.
Shohei Imamura (Japan)
A WWII veteran in Japan thinks he's a snake. His family can't figure him out and are repelled by his actions. The allegorical meaning is: There's no such thing as a holy war.

| Notes: | Raymundo Gleyzer nació en Buenos Aires (Argentina) en 1941. Hijo de Jacobo (un ruso ucraniano) y Sara Aijen, ambos artistas y activistas que fundaron el teatro IFT ( Idisher Folks Teater -Teatro Popular Judío- ) donde Raymundo creció.
A los 20 años Raymundo decide dejar la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y solicita la inscripción en la de Cine en La Plata. A partir de 1964 comienza el primero de los tres períodos del cine y documental políticos de Raymundo: será el de carácter etnológico. De esta época sale la trilogía "Ocurrido en Hualfin".
A partir de 1965 se abre un nuevo período marcado por su trabajo en noticieros (Canal 7 y Telenoche). En su búsqueda personal, este tipo de trabajos terminará con una película propia "México, la Revolución congelada". A nivel personal se incrementa su formación como marxista y su alejamiento definitivo del Partido Comunista..
En 1972 con una fuerte crisis dentro del PRT (Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores-Argentina) y con la desintegración del FATRAC (Frente Antiimperialista de los Trabajadores de la Cultura), Raymundo (militante del PRT) comienza el camino que lo llevara a su único largometraje de ficción "Los Traidores". La búsqueda de Raymundo apuntaba a un cine que entretuviera y concientizara al mismo tiempo. Lo que se podría considerar el tercer período.
Al mismo tiempo que filmaba 'Los traidores', Gleyzer filmó un corto sobre la masacre de Trelew: "Ni olvido ni perdón". La película se hizo básicamente con la conferencia de prensa que los fugados del penal habían dado en el aeropuerto (donde estaban varados) y con una serie de fotos. Al mismo tiempo nacía el FAS (Frente Antiimperialista por el Socialismo), que se relacionó directamente con el proyecto de Cine de Base.
En 1973 crea el grupo "Cine de la base" para llevar el cine a los mismos protagonistas de sus films, los desposeidos de la tierra, los obreros, los indios y los campesinos.
Fue una época en donde se organizaban proyecciones para el debate; se programaban "Los Traidores", "Informes y testimonios", y "Operación Masacre" de Cedrón basada en la novela de Rodolfo Walsh. Las proyecciones se daban cita en cualquier lugar y fuera de Buenos Aires también: La Plata, Córdoba, Rosario, Tucumán. Y el Cine de Base se iba expandiendo... La idea era crear una red que llegara a todo el interior del país, y que funcionara también como una distribuidora.
A medida que las cosas van empeorando en el país, la militancia de Raymundo va creciendo. Estaba con ganas de formar una cadena de salas dentro de las villas, solo con lo necesario: proyector, un techo y bancos. Nunca llegó a concretarlo.
Hacia 1975 la Argentina era un hervidero y la situación era caótica y el funcionamiento de la Triple A (organización terrorista de extrema derecha -Alianza AntiComunista Argentina-) ya era pleno. Raymundo como otros militantes de organizaciones de izquierdas se convierte en un blanco móvil, su imagen, su nombre era el símbolo del Cine de Base. En 1976 realiza un viaje a New York por trabajo, la filmación se demora y Raymundo decide volver a Argentina. El 27 de mayo falta a una cita con un amigo... Raymundo había sido secuestrado. Su casa había sido allanada y la puerta rota a la fuerza; todo estaba roto y revuelto y de Raymundo no había rastros. Nunca más volvió a aparecer.

Grabado en Perú, basado en el argumento de la carta de Walsh y pensado exclusivamente para se difundiera en el resto del mundo para informar sobre las desapariciones de personas y la ferocidad de la dictadura militar Argentina.

Es el trabajo más sólido de este grupo y el último de Raymundo con ellos. La maduración del grupo acá se observa como siempre, en la sagacidad de denuncia nunca atada a los lineamientos estéticos formales de la época. Este documental se destaca por la frescura y el humor, por la búsqueda por crear un cine que combine todos los soportes artísticos y sonoros al alcance de la gente.

| Plot: | As co-founder of the Chicano art group ASCO, Gamboa developed such multi-media forms as the "no-movie" and the "fotonovela," which drew attention to the workings of mass culture. In the mid-1980s, working through cable access, Gamboa produced a series of "conceptual dramas" that explored both stereotypical and traditional notions about the Latino family. In these works, collected here for the first time, Gamboa combined the political influences of the Chicano Movement with the narrative excess of film noir, B-movies, and Mexican telenovelas.

| Notes: | Hay motivo es una serie de 32 cortometrajes producidos en febrero de 2004 y proyectados a partir del 9 de marzo en los que se critican diversos aspectos de la realidad social española y, sobre todo, al gobierno del Partido Popular en distintos temas sociales y políticos. De acuerdo con los propios realizadores, el propósito esta serie de cortometrajes era propiciar un cambio de gobierno ante las inminentes elecciones generales.
Entre los temas de crítica se encuentra la subida del precio de la vivienda, la gestión por parte del gobierno de la crisis que siguió al hundimiento del petrolero Prestige en Galicia, el apoyo del presidente Jose María Aznar a la guerra en Irak o la supuesta manipulación de la televisión pública.
Después de la compilación de la película, los cineastas realizaron un último corto, el que hizo el número 33.
Hay Motivo no se emitió comercialmente en cines, sino que fue proyectado en universidades y otros lugares que solicitaron expresamente su proyección. También se emitió en canales locales de televisión. Los propios cineastas utilizaron estos canales a fin de difundir la serie tan rápido como les fuera posible, por lo que también animaron a descargar la película por Internet, a través de redes P2P.
El efecto de la película en la opinión pública es difícilmente evaluable, ya que los atentados de Madrid el 11 de marzo de 2004, tan sólo tres días antes de las elecciones, supusieron un cambio demasiado brusco en la sociedad y en la política española.
Finalmente, la película fue estrenada comercialmente el día 12 de noviembre de 2004 y proyectada hasta el día 25 del mismo mes, último día de exhibición de la cinta. Apenas 496 espectadores se acercaron al cine para verla (datos del Ministerio de Cultura). La recaudación ascendió a 2.831,40 euros.
Una de las principales críticas a la emisión de Hay motivo es su tinte propagandístico en plena campaña electoral (efecto buscado expresamente por los autores), o el que no se hubiera rodado nada similar sobre los Gobiernos del PSOE, especialmente ante los escándalos que marcaron el final de su gobierno. This is a story about the fertile central valley of Chile. It is a tale of contrasts, of the old life and of the new." This film documents fundo, or plantation farm culture in Chile, where most land is owned by a small wealthy minority, while being worked by the poor minority. The film follows two sons, whom recently inherited pieces a fundo from their father. One son chooses to take an active role in farming and developing his land and largely increases yields. The second son stays with conventional practice of letting the laborers do all the work. This propaganda film lobbies for a move to smaller farms and more owners to improve the lives of the workers and the production of Chilean farms. En Busto de un poeta la palabra es la auténtica protagonista: los versos, las reflexiones y los textos de José Ángel Valente toman cuerpo a través de la mirada del poeta en torno a las tierras, paisajes y monumentos de Navarra, en un recorrido profundo y mágico. | Plot: | El naixement del cinema.
El 10 de desembre de 1896 el "Cinématographe Lumière", fet conèixer un any abans a París, fou presentat oficialment a Barcelona. A partir d'aquell moment i de manera ininterrompuda el cinema ha esdevingut un mitjà d'expressió normal als Països Catalans, seguint les pautes universals dels països industrialitzats.
En aquest vídeo es presenten els orígens i primers passos del cinema i s'ofereix una panoràmica de la seva arribada i el seu desenvolupament a Barcelona i València: primers films i cineastes, locals i personatges que donaven vida a l'espectacle cinematogràfic, etc. En conjunt, es ressegueixen els avenços de la primera dècada d'implantació del cinema entre nosaltres (1895-1905) i s'hi inclouen fragments de les pel.lícules més significatives d'aquells anys.
El món dels pioners.
L'època compresa entre 1906 i 1913 és un període de noms propis, de veritables pioners: Fructuós Gelabert, Ricard i Ramon de Baños, Albert Marro, Joan M.Codina i Segundo de Chomón a Barcelona, Àngel Garcia Cardona a València, Josep Truyol a Mallorca, entre altres.
Aquest grup de joves aventurers va fer possibles, malgrat la forta presència estrangera, les bases d'un cinema propi i la creació d'una incipient indústria cinematogràfica.
El documental recull fragments de les pel.lícules conservades més significatives d'aquesta època. Presenta l'origen i el desenvolupament dels diferents gèneres: documental, melodrama, històric, còmic, d'aventures, etc.i l'aparició de les primeres productores. Amb intervencions de Miquel Porter, Joan Francesc de Lasa i Manuel Huerga.

| Plot: | Nerabe desgrana a través de 11 minutos el proceso de una espera , el ritual de la maternidad a través de una mirada llena de resonancias poéticas. Arranca con una danza hecha de pasos de transición, cómplice de juegos maternales, víctima de miedos, de sueños, de prisas y ensimismamientos propios de quien aguarda lo presentido, lo deseado, aunque temido por no conocido.

La música y la soledad son protagonistas de este documental que muestra la semblanza de un personaje real, Emiliana de Zubeldia, compositora y concertista navarra nacida en Salinas de Oro en 1888 y fallecida en México en 1987. Emiliana, gran viajera, estuvo en contacto con las vanguardias artísticas de principios de siglo completando el apasionante triángulo París, New York, México.

| Plot: | Que viva Mexico: A film document of the history of Mexico, presented in four novellas: Sandunga, an exposition of Tehuantepec jungles and the peaceful lifestyles of their inhabitants; Manguei, a love story about a poor peon and his bride; Fiesta, devoted to bullfighting and romantic love; and Soldadera, a portrayal of the 1910 revolution in Mexico as depicted in the frescoes of Siqueiros, Rivera, and Orosco. Romance sentimentale: Eisenstein's first sound film, this experimental 1930 short is a dazzling symphony of images and sounds, made in collaboration with Alexandrov and Tisse.
