| Title: | A+ (AMAS) | | Director: | Xavier Ribera | | Format: | 1 videodisc (105 min.) ; sd., col. ; 4 3/4 in. DVD (PAL, Region 2) | | Imprint: | Barcelona: Manga Films 2004 | | Language: | Spanish with optional subtitles in English
| | Notes: | Originally produced as a motion picture in 2004. Directed and written by: Xavier Ribera. Actores: Eloy Azorin, Elvira Herreria, Jose Coronado, Misia, Ricardo Moya, Fernando Ramallo, Eloi Yebra.
| | Plot: | A+ is probably one of the most refreshing and innovating cinematographic experiences to be presented in Spain the present year. Filmed most of it in video, it tells tree different stories of three different genres with quite different styles. The point in common for all of them is A+, an independent music show that happens to be the goal for all the characters but by many different circumstances. The first story tells us about a young couple of drug dealers that get themselves in serious trouble with local mafia and have to run away from home almost naked and with two packages of cocaine in their hands. That story, maybe the most interesting, is a rough tale abut fate, love and how to live with you own announced dead. The second one is a funny story held by magnificent comedians Fernando Ramallo and Eloi Yebra about two young guys that star a funny trip to A+ in a lousy sidecar a friend of them got. The third story is a soft and elegant tale about generational miscommunication represented by a father that tries to get close to her daughter by bringing her to A+. The result is a really moving piece that faces us to father-child problems in a very stylish and modern way.

| | Plot: |
Heavy drama about three teens in San Sebastian, a port city on the Bay of Biscay in the Basque country of Spain. Covert references are made to political issues like the miseries of shipyard workers and to the police as rather brusque and hard-nosed. Drugs are rampant in the lower orders of city life; one of the teens has dropped out of high school and is a user, as is his girlfriend. He survives by stealing and by handouts from his family, who nevertheless want nothing to do with him. No matter how much a third teen friend tries to get this couple to give up the habit, nothing works. The ultimate question, though not emphasized here, may be who is really responsible for what happens to this unfortunate young couple.

It is summertime in a blue-collar, marginal district of a city in the South of Spain. Tano, a teenager currently serving a sentence in a juvenile reform center, is given a 48-hour leave to attend his brother's wedding. Together with his best friend Richi, Tano plans to enjoy his 48-hour pass to the limit, doing all the things he is normally prohibited from doing. He gets drunk, takes drugs, steals, has sex and hangs out with his buddies. He feels free and exerts that freedom with all the force and audacity of a teenager. By the end of his 48-hour pass, Tano has also witnessed the collapse of all the things he takes for granted in his life: the neighborhood, his family, friends and loved-ones - everything is somehow different for him. More than just two days of freedom, Tano's leave turns out to be a journey into maturity.

The leading actor in a theatre company on tour in Spain dies in a car crash. A new actor, Jorge Ruiz, comes to take over. He is good-looking, young and revolutionary. His arrival gives rise to tensions, jealousy and distrust among the rest of the company and especially so for Mario Soto who is in charge of directing while the stage manager, who is busy working on an opera for the Teatro Real in Madrid, is away. In the first rehearsal of the play they are doing, “The Untitled Comedy” by Federico García Lorca, there is a clash between these two men. This struggle between the two is witnessed by Carmen Morante, the leading actress in the company and Laura G. Reyna who was the secret lover of the late leading actor. If this wasn’t enough the newcomer brings further conflict; he reads a manifesto in favour of peace at the end of the performance. Mario questions this decision and the company is split.

| Title: | Antigona: Teatro mujer y derechos humanos | | Director: | Miguel Rubio Zapata (Yuyachkani) | | Format: | 1 videodisc (120 min.) ; sd., 4 3/4 in. DVD, (Region All); | | Imprint: | Lima: Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani. 2000. | | Language: | Spanish
| | Notes: | Antigona de Yuyachkani (Peru). Teatro mujer y derechos humanos.
(Teresa Ralli / Miguel Rubio, Yuyachkani)

In a lively discussion with Lord Kelvin, inventor Phileas Fogg states his belief that it's possible for someone to travel around the globe in a mere 80 days. Kelvin challenges him to prove it, and adds a wager: if Fogg can't circumnavigate the globe in 80 days, he'll have to give up inventing forever. Fogg and his crew of two take the challenge. | | Plot: | A Spanish/Mexican co-production, Aro Tolbukhin En La Mente Del Asesino (In the Mind of a Killer) is a semi-documentary about the life of serial killer Aro Tolbukhin. Interviews and reenactments tell the story of a Hungarian man who was sentenced to death before a firing squad in Guatemala. He grew up in Budapest with his twin sister Stella and fled to join the merchant marines during the Russian invasion of 1956. After he was arrested for burning seven people alive in 1981, he confessed to nearly 20 other murders during the Guatemala Civil War. Commentary is provided by Carmen Beato, a former nun who lived with Tolbukhin in Alta Verapaz. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

| | Plot: | This excellent mini-series portrays the Valencian society of the late 19th century and early 20th century. "Arroz y tartana" is technically outstanding, specially concerning art direction, costume design and music.
In turn of the century Valencia, an elegant widow struggles to marry off her two daughters and maintain appearances among the haute bourgeoisie.

| | Notes: | ideocassette release of a 2000 motion picture. Directed by: Gustavo Postiglione Participants: Gerardo Dayub, Tito Gómez, Héctor Molina, Raúl Calandra, Carlos Resta, David Edery, Daniel Briguet.

She is torn between trying to escape and falling in love with him. Almodovar-s theme is not the domination of women, but the strangeness of love and possessiveness. The performances are outstanding. Antonio Banderas is psychopathic and vulnerable, Victoria Abril is fierce and funny (Sight and Sound). This is the uncut, unrated version of the film (also released in an R-rated version) which first earned an X from the MPAA for its sexual content. | | Plot: | Seven pairs of people exchange a variety of thoughts, feelings, and concerns in this comedy-drama from Spain. Pepa (Antonia San Juan) wants her lover Teo (Sergi Lopez) to tell her that he loves her, only to be disappointed. Newly single Jorge (Antonio Resines) calls to have the water put in his name at his new apartment, only to discover that the customer service representative is his ex-wife Laura (Fedra Lorente). Angel (Roberto Alvarez) is about to receive a liver transplant when he receives a visit from Mercedes (Adriana Ozores), wife of the deceased donor -- who wants to say goodbye to the liver. Benito (Jorge Alcazar) and Jacinto (Felix Alvarez) discuss life at Boy Scout camp. Teenaged Susi (Diana Cerezo) confides to her best friend Virgi (Melany Belena) that she might be pregnant. Street sweepers Milagros (Geli Albaladejo) and Rosario (Elvira Lindo) find an abandoned infant and wonder if they should keep it. And Elke (Marta Fernandez-Muro) visits Cuba to see her significant other, Cari (Lucrecia). Ataque Verbal reunites much of the cast and crew from director Miguel Albaladejo's first film, 1999's surprise success Manolito Gafotas.
