About the Master Plan

The master plan will capture Dartmouth's unique sense of place and identity and express the campus community's shared vision for its future, including how the physical design of the campus serves the college's mission and academic objectives. Individual decisions about existing building renovations, the location and design of new buildings, landscape and infrastructure improvements will be organized within the context of larger strategic, aesthetic, and sustainability goals for the campus.

The master plan is both a process and a product. The process can inform projects and initiatives already in progress, and create a broader perspective and forum for ongoing decision-making, community input, communications, and implementation. The product will be a flexible roadmap that the College will continuously refer to for its sustainable development and preservation of the main campus.

The master plan will be guided by the following goals:

  1.  Support the academic direction of the emerging Strategic Plan
  2.  Provide a framework for the campus for the next 10 years and beyond
  3.  Enhance the environmental sustainability of the campus and its systems

Poised for the next watershed moment in the campus's evolution, a successful campus master plan will ensure Dartmouth in reaffirming the institution's core values, inspiring thought leaders in the world and upholding the Green as the gateway to Dartmouth, both locally and globally.
