Our annual SHROVE TUESDAY DINNER
…on the evening of Tuesday, 5 Feb 2008
…prepared by the Men of OSLC
Traditionally the men-folk of OSLC mobilize to prepare and serve the pancakes, sausages and other good things on that evening. Our efforts usually involve a few of us to show up relatively early (late afternoon) to get a few items started, and a number of others to help finish the cooking, serve, etc.
More details as they become available…but please let me know if you are interested in helping. It’s a lot of fun!
John Erickson
FACTOID: In the Canadian province of Newfoundland, household objects are baked into the pancakes and served to family members. Rings, thimbles, thread, coins, and other objects all have meanings associated with them. The lucky one to find coins in their pancake will be rich, the finder of the ring will be the first married, and the finder of the thimble will be a seamstress or tailor. Children have great fun with the tradition, and often eat more than their fill of pancakes in search of a desired object. WE WON’T BE DOING THIS!!!!!
