I know Erin Perkins used to send out emails to alumni asking for
updates, and I just enjoyed looking through the ones posted on your
website, so I thought I'd share my own. I wasn't a Linguistics major,
but half of my Math & Social Science major was in the department and
Dave Peterson was my thesis advisor.
I just finished my first semester as a Computer Science PhD student at
Johns Hopkins. I'm doing machine translation and multilingual
information extraction research in the Center for Language and Speech
Processing and a governmental research center in human language
technology. Computational Linguistics is a super exciting and fast
moving field! I'm really enjoying it so far.
